We have weekly Capoeira classes in the West, Centrum and Oost!
ADULTS
SATURDAY Music, movement and community, a playful introduction to capoeira for children, building confidence, musicality and coordination.
For children from 5 years old. Class is taught in Amsterdam Jordaan.
KIDS
Malungos Amsterdam
Capoeira Malungos Amsterdam is an Afro-Brazilian martial arts and cultural school led by Contramestre Igor. Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The school is the Amsterdam branch of Grupo Capoeira Malungos, an international capoeira organization. While the broader international group was founded by a collective of friends and teachers in 2009, Contramestre Igor began teaching in Amsterdam in 2006, building a community of students and traveling globally to promote the art form.
The group provides classes for adults and children of all experience levels, offering a mix of self-defense, acrobatics, and music.

“During the days of slavery in Brazil, a large part of the slave population was Kimbundu-speaking Africans. They used the term “malungu” meaning anyone who had travelled on the same ship together. Gradually the term was extended to other close companions or friends (often travelling together). Our group consists of a large group of capoeira friends from all over Europe and Brazil – travelling together on a common quest to become better capoeristas. Our name refers to this journey and our openness towards new people and ideas.”

Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Igor has trained capoeira since his teens and holds a degree in Physical Education. With over 30 years of experience and teaching in 15+ countries, he brings technique, patience, and culture to every class in Amsterdam.

Mestre Amendoim
Mestre Amendoim is the padrinho of our group. Amendoim is a world renowned capoeira mestre and is the founder of Senzala Brasilia.
